Messe Berlin

Messe Berlin (Berlin Messegelände) are exhibition grounds in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf precinct of Berlin, Germany, at Masurenallee opposite the Haus des Rundfunks. Since 2011, they have officially been known as “Berlin ExpoCenter City” and operated by the Messe Berlin GmbH company.

The premises, built in 1936-37, comprise twenty-six halls covering 160,000 square meters (1,700,000 sq ft) including Funkturm Berlin. The halls are connected via a bridge to the Internationales Congress Centrum Berlin, which closed in 2014 until further notice.

Important trade fairs held here include Internationale Grüne Woche Berlin (Green Week), Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA), Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB), Youth fair YOU, Venus Berlin and InnoTrans.

1822 The first industrial exhibition takes place. An era of organized exhibitions with Berlin as their venue begins.
1924 The first “Große Deutsche Funkausstellung”, nowadays known as the IFA, takes place. Construction begins of the Radio Tower and of the exhibition hall called Haus der Funkindustrie.
1926 The first Green Week takes place. Opening of the Berlin Radio Tower.
1927 The International Materials Exhibition is the largest fair in Berlin, attracting 250,000 visitors and hosting the largest conference on this subject at the Technische Hochschule.
1928 The ILA, the “International Aviation Exhibition”, takes place at the Berlin Exhibitions Grounds for the first time.
1935 Construction begins of the Deutschlandhalle.
1943 During the war, the Berlin Exhibition Grounds and Deutschlandhalle are almost completely destroyed, and the Radio Tower suffers extensive damage.
1946 Reconstruction of the exhibition grounds begins.
1947 “Werte unter Trümmern”, the first exhibition after the war, takes place on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.
1956 / 1957 Construction begins of the Palais am Funkturm, and the Deutschlandhalle is rebuilt.
1967 The first ITB International Tourism Exchange takes place. Today this trade fair attracts more than 10,000 exhibitors from over 180 countries and territories and is the world’s most international trade fair.
1970 to 1979  Six new exhibition halls are built. Several companies merge to form AMK Berlin – Ausstellungs-, Messe-, Kongress-GmbH.
1979 The International Congress Center ICC Berlin, Europe’s largest and most modern conference venue, opens on 2 April.
1992 AMK Berlin is renamed as Messe Berlin GmbH.
1993 The first FRUIT LOGISTICA takes place.
1996 The first InnoTrans, the International Trade Fair for Transport Technology, takes place.
2003 Completion of the Main South Entrance.
2004 The first Berlin Popkomm takes place.
2006 AQUA UKRAINE and Water Sofia take place. Messe Berlin achieves positive overall results and its highest turnover to date, a figure of 168 million euros.
2007 The debut of the ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA in Bangkok, with the Asiafruit Congress, Asia’s leading specialist conference, in support.
2008 Four new trade fairs open in Berlin, and one in Singapore, with the ITB Asia making the expertise gained by the world’s leading tourism trade show, the ITB, available to exhibitors and trade visitors.
2011 Construction of the “Berlin ExpoCenter Airport” begins.
2012 Opening “Berlin ExpoCenter Airport” and Foundation stone ceremony of “CityCube Berlin”
2014 Opening “CityCube Berlin”
2015 The first Stage|Set|Scenery, international trade fair and conference for theatre, film and entertainment technology, takes place.
2016 The first CE China, international brand show for Consumer Electronics, takes place in Shenzhen.
2017 For its 25th annual reappearance, the WEINmesse Berlin was first or+B28ganized by the Messe Berlin GmbH and took place on the grounds of the Messe Berlin.
The first China FRUIT LOGISTICA takes place in Shanghai.
The conhIT, Europe’s largest event in the Health-IT-branch, was renamed eleven years after its initial launch: DMEA (Digital Medical Expertise & Applications).
The smart Country Convention takes place. The convention focuses on digital solutions for administrations and public services in municipalities, regions and national governments.
2018 For its 25th annual reappearance, the WEINmesse Berlin was first organized by the Messe Berlin GmbH and took place on the grounds of the Messe Berlin.
The first China FRUIT LOGISTICA takes place in Shanghai.
